Parks

Masai Mara
The most famous destination in Kenya: The Masai Mara National Reserve. In this park you will find almost all the East-African anmimals, inclusing the "Big Five".

This area is most famous for the migration that takes place every year, which is considered to be one of the seven tourist travel wonders of the world. Every year around October nearly 1.5 million herbivores travel towards the southern plains, crossing the Mara River, from the northern hills for the rains.

The reason that Masai Mara is a National Reserve and not a park is that the Masai are still living there with their hurds. During a safari it is possible to visit a Masai village.

Tsavo
Tsavo National Park is the biggest park in Kenya. It's surface is about 21.000 square kilometers. The park is divided in Tsavo East en Tsavo West by the road and railway track Nairobi-Mombasa.

The most remarkable in Tsavo East is probably not the wildlife, maar de baobab tree. According to a legend, God planted the tree but it would not stay and it kept running away. So God planted the tree upside down as a punshment so it could not walk away anymore. The baobab tree can get over 2000 years old and become very, very thick. The park is also home for many animals like ostrichs, elefants ans rhinos.

At the beginning of the last century, Tsavo West was famous for its agressive lions. that attacked the railroad builders.Nowadays the park is espacially known for its elefants, that look orange because of the dusty red sand. Besides that there is a lot of other wildlife like zebras, giraffes and buffalos.

West of Tsavo West, at the border with Tanzania, you will find Lake Chala en Lake Jipe. Lake Chala is intensly blue, but has little life. Lake Jipe offers a habitat for hippos and crocodiles. There are also a lot of birds to see.

In the Taita Hills Wildreserve there are a lot of anmials to see. Here it is also possible to make a balloon trip or a night safari.

Amboseli
The Amboseli National Park is less than 150 km from Nairobi and gives a view on Afrika's highest mountain: Mount Kilimanjaro, just iover the border with Tanzania.

Besides the great view on Mount Kilimanjaro the park is famous for its many elefants. Besides them there are many more herbivors like buffeloes, gazelles, gnoes, giraffes and zebras.

In the middle of the park there is a hill, from which there is a big overview. at the westside of the park you will find Lake Amboseli. But outside of the rain season the whole lake is dry!
